Copper and bronze are a versatile metal and thanks to modern chemical treatments, you can choose from a number of colorful patinas for your project. Our lacquered copper and bronze patina finishes can be used indoors or out. Polished copper tarnishes quickly and can only be maintained indoors. In addition to our patina solutions we also offer copper and bronze cleaner solution and high performance matte sealer and gloss sealer formulated especially for copper, brass, and bronze.
We offer two different types of copper patina finishes for our products: copper patina living finish and lacquered copper patina finish.
Copper Patina Living Finish: the copper is cleaned with our special copper cleaner and treated with a chemical solution to achieve the desired color. The finish has a matte appearance and is called a living finish because it will continue to evolve over time.
Lacquered Copper Patina Finish: the copper is cleaned with our special copper cleaner, treated with a chemical solution to achieve the desired color, dried, and coated with our special copper sealer.

Copper patinas are not a paint product. Copper patina finishes are chemical treatments which age the copper surface, achieving overnight what takes years in nature. Since the application of patina finishes is an antiquing method, variation of the color and some green highlights are a natural and desirable aspect of these finishes. By varying the elements of the treatment, a number of colorful copper finishes can be obtained. When used outdoors, these copper patina finishes will change over time just like natural copper, usually achieving the best look several weeks after initial application. (Running water over the product will speed the process.) Patina finishes can be used indoors or out and can be lacquer coated for indoor or outdoor use. Like painted metal products, patina finishes are applied to the outside of the product only. The chemicals used to create copper patina finishes can be highly caustic and should be kept away from steel, aluminum, and painted surfaces.
Lacquered copper finishes include paint products. In these type finishes, a clear sealer is applied to the copper or bronze to preserve the appearance of natural copper or bronze and any copper patina applied. As with any paint product, wear and tear of the environment—especially outdoors, will require the lacquered patina finish to be maintained. However, today's high tech lacquered patinas can last for many, many years of beautiful performance.
